What is EUBO?

The European Union Baroque Orchestra is like no other orchestra: EUBO auditions and selects completely new personnel every year. EUBO’s ephemeral existence makes its concerts special: live performances throughout the EU, enjoying all the technical accomplishment of the best young baroque musicians in Europe, allied to an infectious undimmed sense of discovery and enjoyment. EUBO’s activities are supported with a grant from the European Commission’s programme “cultural ambassadors”. Flying the flag for Europe, “EUBO is a perfect symbol of the power of integration, a subtle and potent instrument of harmonisation between people and nations” (President José Manuel Barroso).

  • "Luxembourg has long seen itself as a natural home for the European ideal and bringing together young players from all over Europe to experience what true integration can offer in practice is a perfect expression of European ideal.”

Octavie Modert, Minister of Culture Luxembourg

  • "EUBO is the perfect example of what Europe can achieve by pooling together its best resources and talents."

    Mrs Androulla Vassiliou,

Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth

  • ”Rarely have I seen so much smiling communication and listening between musicians on a concert stage. As a result, EUBO's concert was a delicate, joyous gem. Talent oozed from the stage. "

    Hugo Shirley, The Daily Telegraph

  • "I am delighted that EUBO should place such a great gift for harmony and reconciliation into the hands of Europe's more promising young musicians."

Mrs Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth

  • “An orchestra is the perfect symbol of the power of integration, and EUBO is a perfect example of what this can mean for Europe. Bringing together talent of different backgrounds, nationalities and languages, it serves as a reminder of what we can achieve by working together.”

José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission

  • "EUBO has greatly contributed to the vitality of European baroque ensembles."

    Mrs Androulla Vassiliou,

Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth
